October 106 A.D. Match List

The October games are about to begin. Still out on the fringe of the Empire, the gladiators rolled up are mostly sub par, which is good for a ludus in its beginning stages. Once they get enough experience, House Tyranus will pick up and move closer towards Rome where the competition gets better, as do the rewards.

First up will be Marco vs. Cassius...

An error on posting comments

There seems to some kind of error with me trying to post comments. Whenever I try to post a reply comment in the "comments area" at the bottom of each post, I keep getting looped back to sign in through my Google account...strange...I can sign in and post match reports and all, and others can post comments, but I cant post any comments myself...weird, I dont know why...but wanted to thank any commenters that post.
So thanks, Tito Pullo...this seems to be the only way I can do it until I get it figured out.

Until the next report, be it a battle or race...

Thanks for reading...

Charioteer- A Race Report

Charioteer

I put together a Vassal Mod for "Charioteer", Two Hour Wargame's latest title and a companion for "Red Sand, Blue Sky-Heroes of the Arena". I use Vassal as I can't paint minis, even if my life depended on it. Gonna try learning the ins and outs of "Charioteer" through running a trial race. The chariot racer's stats are on the pieces themselves represented as Savvy(Sv) and Strength(St). Speed(Sp) represents the team of horses, with Bonus Dice in the little box above the Savvy stat. I rolled all stats for the contestants at random in the "heart of the empire" locale. Since this is my first race, there will be no "signatures" or "traits" that further define the individual horses and charioteers. I will be running charioteer Kidd and the other three will be run by the game mechanics.
Going by the initial stats, charioteer Trupo in the purple chariot, has the advantage. He is the strongest and has the fastest team of horses, and thusly has the most bonus dice to start with. I have a slight edge in Savvy, but I'm gonna have to keep an eye on him...
Horses are ready, charioteers have a firm grip on the reins...time to start...first to complete 3 laps wins...here we go...

Had a fun time...it makes a great companion to Red Sand, Blue Sky.

Last Match for September 106 A.D.

I'm gonna try a new method for displaying hit locations and damage to the combatants. Hopefully this will make it a bit easier for the readers to follow, and more fun to read as it will show how much damage has been taken and to what body part...also how many bonus dice each gladiator has left...thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy!!!

The last match for September 106 has my biggest hopeful in ludus Tyranus...Kagan the murmillo, with the "Brawler" attribute...I have high hopes for this one and eagerly look forward to his career...this last match for this month has my gladiator pitted against another gladiator of equal value(each have 10 attribute points). Cuello the retarius is Savvy-3, Strength-3, Speed-4. While Kagan is at Savvy-4, Strength-3, Speed-3...can the faster retarius take down the more skilled murmillo? The crowd begins to cheer as the gladiators pass through the gates. The signal is given, and the match begins...

Well, the greater speed of the retarius proved to be the difference...aarrgg. But on the plus side, Kagan was spared and will live to fight another day. So back to the ludus to train for next month's matches.

All in all a good month...4 matches won and 1 lost(although the first four matches were against opponents with fewer attribute points...but I'll take the wins anyways)...until the next games.

Match 4

Wow, a quick fight. The retarius used up all his bonus dice early. Luckily for Rakios he didnt roll very many successes. Only through exhausting himself did he lose. At the end, my secutor had only 2 bonus dice left, but it was enough to level his sword at the retarius and force him to submit. While it wasnt pretty, a win is a win. The last match for this month's games is next. For the first time, both warriors will be evenly matched. I rolled up an opponent who is my gladiator's equal. Savvy, Strength and Speed. Coming soon.

Next Up

Next up is my secutor, Rakios as he takes on Decimus the retarius. So far, each match has had my gladiators facing opponents who were lower in total attribute points, and this one is no different. The retarius is only 1 point lower but still can deliver a blow that can end the match for my secutor if he is able to get that trident past the large shield of Rakios.
